Statistician at TM Insurance

I am a statistician with a background in applied mathematics, genetics, and machine learning. My PhD focused on sparse classification — developing fast optimization algorithms for linear discriminant analysis in high-dimensional settings, resulting in the R package accSDA on CRAN.

After a short postdoctoral stint at DTU (Technical University of Denmark), I joined Oqton as employee 42 — a lean, globally distributed software engineering team that included ex-Google X engineers and an unusually high density of PhDs. The company was built around Samir Hanna's vision — formerly VP of Additive Manufacturing at Autodesk — to close the gap between designing 3D objects and manufacturing them at scale. I worked primarily on geometry processing, focusing on algorithms for automatic support generation for metal 3D printing, and also contributed to point cloud-based registration for quality inspection of printed parts and high-precision alignment for robotics applications. Oqton was acquired by 3D Systems in 2020.

From there I moved into large-scale genetic research at deCODE Genetics, where I spent six years contributing to genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in Icelandic and international cohorts. That work led to first- and co-authored manuscripts published in Nature Genetics, Cell, Nature Communications, and other high-impact journals. I also released fastqq, an R package that speeds up quantile-quantile plot generation by 80× for the millions of p-values typical in modern GWAS.

After six years at deCODE, I made a deliberate move in the autumn of 2025: Landsbankinn had just acquired TM Insurance, and I saw the integration ahead as exactly the kind of opportunity worth positioning for. Joining at that inflection point — as a statistician — means being present while two very different financial cultures and data landscapes are brought together under one roof. Bancassurance integrations don't come around often, and I'd rather be inside one than read about it later.
